When it comes to some states leaving Donald Trump’s name off the 2024 presidential ballot, Whoopi Goldberg argued the former President is in a mess of his own making.
Trump has been disqualified from appearing on the presidential ballots in Colorado and Maine, with many calling on the U.S. Supreme Court to make a definitive ruling. Goldberg argued that this all could have been avoided if the former president hadn’t encouraged the Jan. 6 insurrection.
“None of this would be happening had he let the people decide who they wanted to be president,” Goldberg argued on Tuesday’s episode of The View. “He didn’t like that. He didn’t want that.”
Colorado and Maine have cited the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which bars anyone who previously took an oath of office from having “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” or having “given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.” Trump’s federal election interference trial is currently slated to begin on March 4.
“Now suddenly they’re paying attention to the law,” Goldberg continued. “Where’s everybody been? Did you just wake up and go, ‘”Oh damn?!’””They say it’s going to be up to the U.S. Supreme Court to decide if the Constitution does indeed bar him from running,” Goldberg explained, “even though the Constitution says, ‘If you do this kind of stuff, you can’t run.’”
