Whoopi Goldberg Fires Back with Cutting Response to Critics of Dolly Parton’s Cheerleader Outfit

Whoopi Goldberg isnโ€™t here for ageist commentary on Dolly Partonโ€™s latest incarnation as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader.

While most Americans were celebrating Thanksgiving, Parton delivered a dazzling halftime show at the Dallas Cowboys-Washington Commanders game. The country superstarโ€™s set included her classic songs โ€œJoleneโ€ and โ€œ9 to 5,โ€ as well as a spirited mashup of Queenโ€™s โ€œWe Are the Championsโ€ and โ€œWe Will Rock You.โ€

The performance, however, drew a fair share of online criticism, much of it focused on the singer wearing a crop top and shorts over a flesh-colored body suit. โ€œNobody wants to see a 95 year old granny dressed like that even if youโ€™re worth 650 million,โ€ one person wrote of Parton, whoโ€™s 77, on Instagram.

Acknowledging the discourse on โ€œThe Viewโ€ on Monday, Goldberg offered a concise retort to Partonโ€™s detractors.

โ€œSome critics told her to act her age. Bite me!โ€ she said. โ€œAnd everybody who participated in this, you should be ashamed of yourself.โ€Co-host Sunny Hostin agreed, noting: โ€œIf I look like that in one of them Cowboys things, I might have everything out. I donโ€™t know if thatโ€™s a belly ring or what, but I want what she has.โ€

The conversation then shifted to Beyoncรฉโ€™s 11-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, who was subjected to online snark after performing onstage with her mom during the Renaissance Tour this summer.

โ€œSheโ€™s somebody who doesnโ€™t care what you think,โ€ Goldberg said. โ€œSheโ€™s someone whoโ€™s thinking for herself, and Iโ€™d like to see each and every one of you haters … do half of what she did on that stage. Letโ€™s see your dance videos that you havenโ€™t cleaned up. Donโ€™t be shady, man. Lifeโ€™s too short.โ€

Similarly, Parton doesnโ€™t appear to be fazed by such commentary. Appearing on the Amazon Music series โ€œThe Walk Inโ€ last month, she vowed to dress โ€œas sexy as I could beโ€ as she prepared to unveil โ€œRockstar,โ€ her first rock album.

โ€œWe want to show just enough,โ€ she said at the time.
