Whoopi Goldberg Made a Major Change to ‘The View’ and Fans Had Feelings About It

The View is famous for getting political in their popular Hot Topics segment, but on Monday, Whoopi Goldberg flipped the script on the show for a very special reason.

For the November 13 taping of The View, the Sister Act star surprised co-hosts Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro by shaking things up at the iconic table. Instead of discussing current events and pop culture, she chose to hand out gifts to all the women to celebrate her 68th birthday. As the group excitedly opened up packages filled with some of Whoopi’s favorite things, the longtime TV personality got emotional while explaining why she decided to move away from The View’s traditional lineup for the day.

“I feel lucky to have lived to this age,” she vulnerably told her co-stars about turning 68 years old. “I’ve outlived my brother — I’m older than my brother was. I just feel like I should celebrate and have a good time for all those folks who didn’t get to get here!”

Even though the hosts eventually got to a version of the segment, it was much shorter, and people seemed to appreciate that. In fact, many took to social media to express how much they appreciated the fun twist.

“Happy birthday Whoopi! And just like her, we all needed a break from political hot topics. Glad she got to enjoy her day with special guests 🙂,” one person wrote on YouTube. “Happy Birthday, Whoopi!! Great show today,” another commented. “Whoopi’s birthday is always very sweet/memorable for anyone around 💯💯. Happy birthday to you dear Whoopi; many more years ahead with joy and happiness ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” a different follower declared.

As if that wasn’t enough, Grammy Award-winning music legend Gladys Knight also graced our televisions, performing her hits “Midnight Train to Georgia” and “Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me.”Needless to say, it looks like Whoopi had one of her best birthdays ever!
