Whoopi Goldberg was back on The View today … sort of. The co-host made a brief video appearance on today’s broadcast as she continues to recover at home from another bout of COVID-19.
Joy Behar, who was taking over as moderator in Goldberg’s absence, introduced her brief appearance by explaining to viewers that Goldberg was still “under the Covid weather” as she deals with her third case of the virus.
Responding to people wondering why Goldberg was still sick after getting vaccinated against COVID-19, Behar shot back, “she’s not dead, she’s just a little bit under the weather, okay? If you don’t get it and you get the disease, you might die.”
Behar added, “This type of irrational talk drives me nuts,” but cooled down as she played Goldberg’s video message.
Goldberg greeted her co-hosts from her bedroom, where she sat masked up before briefly pulling down her face covering to prove it really was her.
“Hey, in spite of everything you’ve heard — and let me just make sure that you all know it’s actually me — see, it’s me,” she said as she smiled to viewers. After pulling her mask back up, Goldberg continued, “I am not at Burning Man, I am not still in Italy, I am not, you know, doing stuff, I’m not trying to change the outcome of the election. I just, I have Covid.”
She repeated, “I just have Covid,” adding, “I’m still testing positive, apparently. I have to have a clear test before I can come back, so it might be a couple of days.”
The longtime moderator said she was “really thrilled” to see the show’s “beautiful” new set when she returns, and is also looking forward to seeing her “beautiful” co-workers.
“You girls look great. I can’t wait to get back and hang out, but until then, it’s me and my mask,” she said, before adding with a laugh, “I’m sort of confined to my room. I’ve never been sent to my room like this at this age. But I’ve been confined to my room, but I just wanted to say hi and let everybody know that I’ll be there as soon as I can, and I’m sending you all great love and can’t wait to get back to our favorite place, The View.”

Goldberg was noticeably absent from yesterday’s Season 27 premiere, and Behar explained her absence at the top of the show, telling the audience that Goldberg tested positive for Covid, but is “on the mend.”
“She’s on the tail end and she’ll probably be back this week,” Behar said, before adding, “But sorry she’s not here, for those of you who were looking forward to seeing her.”
Fingers crossed we see Goldberg back in the studio by the end of the week, but until then, we’re wishing her a speedy recovery.
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC. Watch Goldberg’s message in the video above.
