Whoopi Goldberg admits she wishes she had NEVER got married before hitting out at her View co-host Joy Behar for joking she should find a ‘younger husband’

Whoopi Goldberg has revealed that she never wanted to get married, despite getting hitched three times in the past, while complaining about how ‘boring and expenses’ her trio of divorces became.

The 67-year-old star decided to open up about her past relationships during Tuesday’s episode of The View, when she admitted she was ‘dancing and prancing’ every single time her marriages came to an end.

Whoopi has been divorced a total of three times, with her final marriage to union organizer Lyle Trachtenberg ending in 1995.

The Ghost star admitted that by the time her third marriage was over, she felt it was ‘getting expensive and boring’, hinting that this is one major reason she has never said ‘I do’ again – despite having high-profile romances with actors Timothy Dalton and Ted Danson.

Whoopi grew increasingly fed up during the conversation with her fellow panelists as they discussed their own relationships, especially when Joy Behar urged women to ‘marry a guy younger than you’. The Oscar-winning actress and Joy, along with Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin were discussing dating and divorce throughout Tuesday’s episode, and were keen to talk about The Real Housewives of Miami star Lisa Hochstein.

A few days ago, Lisa slammed her estranged husband Lenny Hochstein on social media after learning of his engagement to girlfriend Katharina Mazepa, despite still being married to her.

The reality TV star reminded the world that Lenny is still married to her and wrote on her Instagram Stories: ‘Congrats to my current husband and his mistress on their engagement.’

Joy, 80, was quick to comment on the situation and told the panel: ‘As somebody who has been divorced, I want to say there’s a special type of rage involved when you get divorced!’

Sunny, 54, was keen to hear more and asked her: ‘What’s so special about it?’ to which Joy jokingly replied: ‘You are murderous, homicidal!’

As the live studio audience cheered in agreement, Joy continued: ‘A lot of women understand that. There’s something about… even if you want the divorce, there’s something about that wrenching that makes you homicidal.’

Whoopi then blurted out: ‘I was dancing and prancing around, I was so glad to get out of there! Every time! Because I always knew, I always thought, “you didn’t want to do this from the giddyap! You knew you didn’t want to do it and you did it anyway so shut up and move on!”‘

Joy then questioned: ‘Why did you do it?’ to which Whoopi responded: ‘I thought I could make a round hole go into a square peg. I thought that that was what was for me.’I was never meant to be married. And I know that and I knew that then and I kept trying to do what everybody would say I was supposed to do and then it was like, you know what, “this is getting expensive and boring”.’

Whoopi’s first marriage was to a drug counselor named Alvin Martin from 1973 until 1979.

After her film career kicked off, she married cinematographer David Claessen in 1986 but it wasn’t meant to be as they were divorced by 1988.

Whoopi married her third and final husband, Lyle Trachtenberg, in 1994 but they split the following year.

Following her third divorce, she had live-in relationships with actor Frank Langella and playwright David Schein.

Her other ex-boyfriends include businessman Michael Visbal, orthodontist Jeffrey Cohen, and camera operator Edward Gold.

Meanwhile, Joy has been married twice and was in a relationship with her current husband Steve Janowitz for 29 years before they tied the knot in 2011.

Before that she was married to college professor Joe Behar in from 1965 until 1981.
