This significant event will be held in Chicago, marking the end of an illustrious chapter in Rapinoe’s life.

At 38 years old, Rapinoe has had a remarkable journey in the sport. She made the decision to retire from professional soccer last month, prior to the commencement of the Women’s World Cup. Her retirement will officially take effect at the conclusion of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season in November 2023.

Additionally, she played a pivotal role in leading the U.S. team to Olympic gold at the 2012 London Games. Despite the disappointment of missing a crucial penalty kick during the last 16 stage of this year’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, which resulted in the U.S. being knocked out by Sweden, Rapinoe’s contributions to the team have been invaluable.Reflecting on her career, Rapinoe expressed feelings of joy and gratitude rather than sadness. She described her journey as an “unbelievable ride” and looks forward to the opportunity to play one last time for her country, expressing her eagerness to thank her teammates and everyone who has influenced her personal and professional growth over the years.

Rapinoe’s legacy extends beyond her on-field achievements. She will conclude her international career with an impressive record of 203 caps, 63 goals, and 73 assists for the national team. Off the field, Rapinoe has been a vocal advocate for LGBT+ rights and equal pay in women’s soccer, further cementing her status as a role model and trailblazer.

As for her club career, Rapinoe is set to play her final regular-season game with OL Reign on October 6th, 2023, against Washington Spirit in Seattle. This marks the end of an era for Rapinoe, whose impact on the sport will undoubtedly continue to resonate long after her retirement.
