Riley Gaines Settles Civil Suit Against Lia Thomas for $1.2 Million

Riley Gaines was cheated out of one of the greatest moments of her life by a swimmer with a clear advantage. It cost her more than just a national championship; it also cost her a spot on the womenโ€™s national team.

The NCAA had nothing to say about it, so Riley did what she had to and got a lawyer. After more than a year, it finally paid off. Gaines settles out of court with Thomas for $1.2 million.โ€œItโ€™s justice,โ€ said Gaines, โ€œfor every little girl who tries her hardest and loses to someone who cheats.โ€ Gaines will put the money into her private foundation for children.

NCAA President Joe Barron says the league is pleased with the outcome and looks forward to moving past the issue.Itโ€™s a true win for Riley Gaines, the little girl who dreamt of standing alone in 5th place rather than next to someone who tied her by cheating. โ€œRiley was never that good,โ€ said Emma Weyent, who actually lost a championship spot to Thomas, โ€œbut at least sheโ€™s feisty. Maybe with all that money, sheโ€™ll be able to buy some more talent and try out for the womenโ€™s team again next year.โ€

The womenโ€™s team says it has no intention of signing a little Tomi Lahren wannabe to its roster. โ€œSheโ€™s justโ€ฆyou knowโ€ฆno fun to be around. Search โ€œRiley Gaines laughingโ€ and see what you come up with. The poor thing probably needs lots of therapy after her ordeal.

At least sheโ€™s got a boatload of fictional cash to start a new life. Itโ€™s not how you get there, itโ€™s the arrival that matters. Or something like that. God Bless America.
