At the 2024 ESPY Awards, Serena Williams called out Kansas City Chiefs player Harrison Butker following his controversial remarks about the role of women.
The tennis champion hosted the award ceremony and, during the gala, was joined by her sister Venus Williams and Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson to celebrate women in sports.
“So, go ahead and enjoy women’s sports like you would any other sports because they are sports,” Venus Williams said.
Serena added, “Except you, Harrison Butker. We don’t need you.” Brunson then said, “At all. Like, ever.”
The Williams sisters and Brunson made these comments while Butker was most likely in the audience, as he attended the event at the Dolby Theatre.
