Throughout her career, U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe has never been one to mince words.
And with her final game ending after just six minutes due to a torn Achilles, you knew she wouldnโt hold back.
โIโm not a religious person or anything and if there was a god, like, this is proof that there isnโt,โ Rapinoe said. โThis is f up. Itโs just f***ed up. Six minutes in and I eat my Achilles.โ
Rapinoe, playing for OL Reign in the NWSL championship on Saturday against Gotham FC, went down mere minutes into the match, crumbling to the ground while trying to close down on an opponent.
It was immediately apparent the non-contact injury was severe, and she was helped from the pitch in tears after being attended to be trainers.
โEveryone is always like, โWho kicked me?โ And obviously no one was even around me, and I was pressing,โ Rapinoe said, describing the injury in the post-match press conference, via The Seattle Times. โThatโs what it felt like. Just a huge pop and I canโt even feel where the Achilles is, but pretty sure I tore my Achilles. The worst possible outcome.
โThank God I have a f***ing deep well of a sense of humour. Itโs devastating to go out in a final so early.โ
Rapinoe had hoped to wrap up her career on a high note, having announced her pending retirement earlier in the year. With her Seattle-based team making a run to the NWSL final, it set the stage for a glorious farewell.
