Kimmel: Walls Are Closing in on Trump With Sidney Powell Guilty Plea

While Donald Trump is currently causing a ruckus at his fraud trial in New York Cityโ€”complete with a judge-mandated gag orderโ€”the more jaw-dropping legal news in Trumpworld seems to be happening in Georgia.

Thatโ€™s where, on Thursday, Sidney Powellโ€”Trumpโ€™s former lawyer, who was charged right alongside him for attempting to subvert election results in Georgia following the 2020 presidential electionโ€”pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor charges of conspiracy to interfere with the election. And Jimmy Kimmel thinks that sound youโ€™re hearing is the walls closing in on the former president.

Sharing the details of โ€œthis weird human ladyโ€™sโ€ plea, Kimmel explained that, โ€œAmong other things, Powell hired people to barge into a voting location, where they went through the voting machines. Turns out thatโ€™s not a very lawyerly thing to do.โ€

While Powell was among one of the loudest voices out there in 2020 pushing a variety of conspiracy theories about election tampering in Georgia (and promising to โ€œrelease the Krakenโ€)โ€”and was standing just feet from Rudy Giuliani that time his head leakedโ€”she has now done a major about-face and is reportedly cooperating with investigators in a sweetheart deal that should see her receiving just six yearsโ€™ probation in exchange for paying $8,700 in fines and restitution, providing investigators with whatever information she might be able to supply, and testifying against her co-defendantsโ€”including the guy who just happened to be the 45th President of the United States.

โ€œOh man, the Chicken McNuggets are coming home to roost, arenโ€™t they?โ€ Kimmel remarked. โ€œThe rats are jumping off the Spraytanic. The big, beautiful walls are closing in and somewhere up there I have to believe John McCain is smiling. You know, he likes people who donโ€™t get caught.โ€
