Soccer star Megan Rapinoe drew controversy during a recent podcast by mocking Christians upset over comments she made suggesting her recent injury disproved the existence of God.
In response to the backlash, Rapinoe sarcastically remarked, “Somebody needs to check on the Christians. Theyโre not okay. They also missed the whole joke, but okay.”
She emphasized finding humor in her remarks, whether directed at God, herself, religion, or the world, and expressed amusement at the reactions.
Reflecting on her injury, Rapinoe commented, “Iโm just thinking about my teammates coming over and โ of course, itโs sad, but itโs also like โ I donโt know, itโs kind of just like life.”
Acknowledging the mixed responses to her injury, Rapinoe criticized those who celebrated it while portraying themselves as sympathetic, deeming them “in a special place in hell.”
Rapinoe’s remarks add to her history of controversy, including prior anthem kneeling and left-wing advocacy.
